Gong Xi Fa Cai to everyone!! ;D My 'lucky plant', or botanically known as Eulophia andamanensis, is currently giving me its best show with 15 spikes in flower..! Its very easy to grow, rather pest resistant, but is deciduous and needs a good rest to bloom when the new growths emerge.. The colour is not that attractive (green) but the small long lasting flowers (more than a month) are quite interesting.. Enjoy! When the spikes were emerging: In bloom now: Closeup: Plant habit showing new spikes and old leafless bulbs: A more 'artsy' shot with shadow: Hehe.. ;D

dsim, it likes being dry between waterings and because I water heavily. If the soil gets sticky (bad drainage), the roots will rot. I use the same medium for other shallow-rooted terrestrials (geodorum, paphs etc).

some people use styrofoam chips for the same reason especially for hanging pot to minimise the weight...

dsim, yes, spathoglottis also does not like being continuously wet. If too wet, they are prone to get many disease and pest attacks.

citer pasal eulophia dan spatho yg mati sebab terlalu basah ni saya mmg tahu first hand. whole pot of Eulophia graminea rot sebab tanahnya terlalu basah, begitu juga dgn Spatho unguiculata. sib baik spatho ungui ni cukup common dan senang beli di pasar malam, tapi eulophia graminea (species padang bola kata org) saya mmg suka. harap2 blh dpt lagi. sesapa ada division nak jual ke, tlg bagitau.

Senang aja cari eulophia graminea... hang pi aja kat area kawasan perumahan yang baru dibina, yang belum ada orang duduk lagi... cari kat tanah merah, sure banyak... eulophia graminea ni jenis tak suka banyak air dan baja. Kalu nak tanam, gunakan tanah merah atau pasir aja. Siram air ala kadar dan jangan beri baja. Sebaiknya letakkan daun lalang kering kat keliling bulb dia. Pepandailah dia proses sendiri baja dari daun lalang tu... ;D
