We are pleased to invite you to an orchid workshop "Orchid Uses, Physiology and Biotechnology" in the University of Malaya, 19-20 November 2011. This 2-day workshop will be conducted by four orchid experts, Prof. Dr. Joseph Arditti (a world renown orchidologist), Dr. Chen Wen-Huei (Research Fellow, Orchid Research Center, National Cheng Kung University), Dr. Teoh Eng Soon (past president, Orchid Society of SE Asia), Prof. Dr. Wong Sek-Man (Vice Dean, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore).

Prof. Joseph Arditti received his PhD from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1965. He then joined the faculty of University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 1966, served as a professor there for 35 years and devoted his entire career to research on orchids before retiring in 2001 to become Professor of Biology Emeritus. Prof. Arditti is the author of over 375 scientific papers, popular articles and books, including The Fundamentals of Orchid Biology, which was selected Book of the Year by American Association of Book Publishers. He was also the Founding Editor of Orchid Biology, Reviews and Perspectives and recipient of the Gold Medal from the Orchid Society of South East Asia in Singapore.
Dr. Chen Wen-Huei is a researcher of the Orchid Research Center of the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He received his PhD from the University of Nottingham, England in 1987. He served as a Distinguished Professor and the Director of Dept. of Life Sciences and Institute of Biotechnology, National Cheng Kung University. He has been actively engaged in the research on breeding and micropropagation of Phalaenopsis and was invited as a judge for the World Orchid Conference 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2008.
Dr. Teoh Eng Soon is a past president of the Orchid Society of Southeast Asia (OSSEA) and a former editor of the Malayan Orchid Review. He is the author of the books Orchids of Asia and Orchids in a Garden City. He has cultivated several award-winning orchid hybrids, lectured and written extensively on orchids and sat on the OSSEA panel of judges.
Prof. Sek-Man Wong is the Vice Dean, Faculty of Science of the National University of Singapore. He leads a molecular virology laboratory which works on developing and characterizing the plant viral vectors (e.g., AYVV, CymMV, ORSV, HCRSV, PVX, HLSV, ZYMV), production of virus-resistant transgenic orchids and watermelons, and a few more areas. He is one of the editors of Orchid Biology, Reviews and Perspectives.
