mungkin sebab takut nanti dia makan native species kita.

Chelonoidis carbonaria was last time sold @ Jalan Pasar for rm750. don 't know still got or not. but the seller is quite lansi, cannot hold/check on health of animals before buying. how to buy if can't make sure of health...
maybe you can look up on adpost, people selling some good stuff there but usually at high prices.
temperament and ease-of-care wise, i think redfoot is the best land tortoise.

ni pendapat saya je, sekadar berkongsi pendapat, jgn marah ya kwn kwn... but i think tak payah lah bela haiwan2 eksotik mcm start turtle ni, lagi mahal market price dan wujudnya demand, lagilah org nak trade dan smuggle dan wujud masalah poacher. even tho anak atau telur atau apa sebab haiwan2 ni bukannya boleh buat cell culture atau cloning atau cambah biji2 dia dapatkan beribu2 pokok dlm flask... tak mcm orkid yg dah banyak diklon serata dunia.

kekeke.. ramai yang berpendapat macam tu, tapi perkara sebenarnya lain sangat.
the extinction of exotic animals is by no means caused by pet trade. rather it is caused by food trade. no offense, but the truth is many chinese are still eating exotic animals, believing in non-scientifically proven benefits of such. the demands from mainland china itself is enough to cause the extinction of species from all over asia. thousands of tonnes of our own endangered Heosemys spinosa and Manouria impressa are shipped annually to be cooked in China.
pet trade, on the other hand, gives new lease of life to endangered animals. with demand, more and more farms are established to produce captive bred animals. Example: Astrochelys radiata, once considered very endangered and classified in CITES 1, nowadays are captive produced in thousands each year because of the demand of pet market.
if you want my opinion, i think those wildlife people should raid chinese food market (read: pudu market, ipoh market, slaughterhouse in setiawan, etc etc) instead of bothering with pet markets.

sebenarnya saya dah taip panjang2 respon saya tapi saya rasa saya tak nak lah komen bnyk2 ttg perkara ni, complex sebab argument "food trade vs pet trade" ni saya rasa melibatkan isu kenegaraan, kaum, kepercayaan, culture sesebuah society dan sudah tentu ego masing2.
just let it be known that i do not have issues with people keeping these animals if they're from pet farms but i most certainly do not agree with folks who capture and confine exotic rare wildlife (from the jungles). and i do belief that what the govt is trying to do is to curb export of such animals (hence stationing officers at exit/entry points), i doubt they go raiding pet shops selling farm hatchlings. or do they??

i think the discussion is ok pdox, this is a forum after all. each one entitled to his/her own opinion. kita tengok banyak reptiles di zoo tapi penjagaan dari segi diet/husbandry semua tak betul dan takde usaha untuk memperbetulkan. ada banyak spesimen pun jarang yang dapat dibiakkan sebab staf buat tak ambil tahu dengan telur/dibiarkan macam tu sahaja tanpa diincubate dan ada yang dimusnahkan (berlaku di depan kawan saya yang pernah volunteer dgn zoo negara) jadi semua usaha untuk pembiakan jatuh ke tangan private keepers yang betul2 ada minat untuk memelihara dan membiakkan haiwan-haiwan tersebut.. saya sangat suka orang-orang yang ada usaha untuk buat captive breeding, tapi orang yang simpan single specimen memang banyak yang kena fire percayalah cakap saya kalau tak ada private keepers/breeders banyak species kita yang akan pupus satu hari nanti berkenaan farm.. asal specimennya mestilah yang dari stok liar. macam orkid jugak, konsepnya sama sahaja.
