catasetum are easy to care for. just need to understand that they have a dormant phase (when they shed all their leaves leaving the pseudobulbs behind). during active growing phase, feed them heavily with 1/4 strength fertilizer. during the dormant phase, withhold watering till u notice the bulb slightly shriveled, then water them. they do not die of underwater during dormant phase but they do die of over watering during this phase. for starters i recommend 100& charcoal media in pots with holes by the side. they can be planted under cattleya lighting condition. for starters i dun advice sphagnum moss packed in plastic pots, most of the time will end up drowning them. hope these basic tips helps

If the plant has a lot of back bulbs say about 5 of them do I need to cut the bulb?

you may cut those back bulbs if you plan to make new division out of them or unless the bulb is rotting away. otherwise i would leave them there.
